Grove City High tennis team opened the season Monday with a 5-0 romp over Oil City.
Singles results showed: Abby Casalnova def. Mora McLaughlin 6-1, 6-3; Reba Duran def. Michaela Lockwood 6-0, 6-0; Alexis Delligatti def. Allie Domer 6-0, 6-0. In doubles it was: Stephanie Krofcheck & Maddie Jazwinski def. Leisel Kober & Ashlee Roth 6-0, 6-2; Katie Kosick & Emily Krofcheck def. Katie Dolecki & Rachelle Gove 6-2, 6-6 (5-7), 6-1.

Region 2 Mega-Match
Hickory’s Nick Vuich and West Middlesex’s Matt Dogan both carded 78s on Monday to share medalist honors at the 1st Region 2 Mega-Match of the season at Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage.
Hickory shot a team score of 330 to earn 5 points in the standings. The Hornets were followed by WM (335), Sharon (375), Sharpsville (400) and Wilmington (429).

Coach Pat Forese’s Grove City golf team edged Slippery Rock to capture the R3-MM at Grove City Country Club. SR’s Brett Rinker shot a 73 to earn medalist honors.
GC and SR both shot 330 team scores. They were followed by Meadville (335), Warren (351) and Oil City (415).

Region 1 Mega-Match
Hickory rolled to victory at Lucky Hills Golf Course in Franklin. Hickory shot a 173 while Reynolds had a 223. Rocky Grove only had 2 players and Meadville is now in Region 2.
Hickory’s Rosy Hearns fired a 38 to earn medalist honors. Playing as independents from Grove City were Fontaine McFeaters (47) and Meg Birmingham (52).

HIGH SCHOOL SPRING SPORTS ROUNDUP: County track set today at Hickory
The annual Mercer County Track & Field Invitational will be held at Hickory High’s Hornet Stadium today, beginning at 9 a.m.
Competing are all Mercer County teams, Class AAA and AA, as well as Slippery Rock. The meet serves as a warm-up to the District 10 championships set next week at Harbor Creek High. -
RANDOM THOUGHTS: Competitive cheerleading tough for even manly men
WHEN I THINK OF MYSELF, I think I’m one of the more manly men you’ll find.
I definitely don’t mind eating all kinds of meat and potatoes. I love watching sports — and participating in them when I can.
I do many other things that ‘real’ men do that aren’t fit for print and proper readers.
What I don’t do is wear skinny jeans or other tight-fitting clothes. I don’t wear jewelry nor do I wear colors that lean more to the femine side than the masculine side. -
HIGH SCHOOL SPRING SPORTS ROUNDUP: Mercer 9 drops thriller to KC
It was a game both teams were trying to win — it just seemed as though neither wanted to — as Kennedy Catholic High baseball team met Mercer Friday afternoon in an inter-region District 10 affair.
The teams traded late leads before, ultimately, Scott Moore’s fielder’s choice RBI-grounder scored pinch-runner Ethan Feldmiller with the game-winner, as KC captured an 11-10 conquest. -
