OPINION —
THERE ARE WEEKS where I really truly, struggle to come up with something to say in this space.
And there are times when I have to pick which topic to talk about.
This week was more of the latter.
Jerry Sandusky being found guilty; LeBron getting his first ring; Title IX’s 40th anniversary; college football scrapping the BCS and going to a playoff; and cheating athletes finding a way to get off in the court system.
So many topics to talk about and so little space.
I think I will only talk about Sandusky and LeBron this week.
ä Outside of the city of Cleveland, I may be the biggest LeBron hater out there.
I rooted for whoever the Heat were playing in the playoffs and with each series, I became more and more worried he’d actually get a ring.
LeBrick got his ring Thursday evening and now we’ll be hearing about this for months to come. ESPN and the like will not let us forget how awesome he is.
The talk will now center on how many titles James will win and will probably make me hate the national media even more than I already do.
My dislike for James began back in the day when he was playing high school hoops in Akron for St. Vincent/St. Mary’s.
I didn’t like how his mom reacted to former George Junior standout Benson Callier’s block of a LeBron shot and continued when everyone started calling him King James.
The dislike gained steam when James acted like a nut when he made a quote-unquote clutch shot in the playoffs once in a blue moon.
ä As worried as I was about the Miami Heat winning an NBA championship, I was more worried Sandusky would actually be cleared after facing as many as 52 charges of child molestation.
When I heard a large portion of the jury chosen to hear his case had some sort of link to Penn State, I thought a fix was in and Sandusky wasn’t going to pay for his heinous transgressions.
Thankfully, I was wrong and the jury of his peers found him guilty 48 times and he will probably spend the rest of his life in prison.
He deserves much, much worse.
I wish the American justice system was like some w-a-a-a-a-y back in the day when crimes where solved in an eye-for-an-eye mindset.

STAIRWAY TO SEVEN: Mike Adams is an example about making good decisions
ANOTHER OFFSEASON AND another Pittsburgh Steeler in the news for all the wrong reasons.
This time, it was second-year offensive tackle Mike Adams, who was stabbed in the stomach and forearm last weekend during a reported carjacking.
According to police reports, a witness flagged down police around 3 a.m. near Carson Street in Pittsburgh and Adams was found bleeding in a nearby restaurant. -
EXTRA INNINGS: Nobody hit home runs like Willie Stargell
THE MOST IMPORTANT fact about Garrett Jones’ monster two-run home run Sunday is that it tied the Reds-Pirates game at 4 in the eighth inning. But the most historic fact about the achievement is that the shot made him the first Pirate in the 13-year history of PNC Park to hit a ball on the fly into the Allegheny River.
Before Sunday, the only other player to reach the water on the fly was Houston’s Darryl Ward, when he connected off Kip Wells in July 2002. -
THE CHECKERED FLAG: Holtgraver doubles up at Mercer
LAST FRIDAY I planned on taking in the World of Outlaw Sprint Car show at Attica (OH) Raceway Park, but Mother Nature had other ideas washing out the event for the second straight year. Storms were all throughout the Buckeye State that washed out just about every venue including the first ever Patriot 360 Sprint Car event at Raceway 7.
The weather though was clear at Lernerville Speedway and I finally made my first visit of the season to the Sarver oval. -
