˛ Two times a trend?

For the second time in less than a year, Pittsburgh Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is battling allegations he had inappropriate contact with a woman.

The latest incident was said to have occurred late last week at a bar in Georgia where Roethlisberger has a home.

Details from the alleged incident are still grainy. As of late Monday, charges had yet to be filed against Roethlisberger.

˛ Shuffling Cards

Just a year after facing the Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII, Arizona Cardinals’ head coach and ex-Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt is seeing a changeover in his team’s personnel.

Only weeks after Cardinals’ quarterback Kurt Warner announced he was retiring from the NFL, safety Antrel Rolle signed with the New York Giants, linebacker Karlos Dansby inked a deal with Miami and wideout Anquan Boldin was traded to Steelers’ AFC North division rival Baltimore.

On his way to Arizona, though, will be ex-New York Jets safety Kerry Rhodes, a 2006 Pro Bowler.

"We all know that the safety position was a hole we needed to fill," Whisenhunt said. "To be able to do that so quickly and with a proven starter off the NFL's No. 1 defense is a tremendous positive for our football team.”

Whisenhunt, who last month became the first coach in the longtime-struggling franchise’s history to sign an extension with the Cardinals, is signed on to guide the team through at least 2013.

Lucky number

2 — The seed head coach Jamie Dixon’s Pitt Panthers will be in the Big East tournament when the open play in the annual event Thursday evening at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Panthers, who surprised many by finishing the regular season 24-7 after losing stars Levance Fields, Sam Young and DeJuan Blair after last year’s upset by Villanova in the Elite Eight, were picked to finish no better than eighth in conference according to the preseason Big East polls.

"I think it shows how much we've come together from the beginning of the year," junior Gilbert Brown told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. "It's a real testament to how hard we work. Nobody predicted us to finish No. 2. That really makes us feel proud as a unit."

"It says a lot about this group and the character they have to finish in second place," Dixon added in the interview with the newspaper.

The tournament opened Tuesday. The Panthers will play the winner of tonight’s game between Notre Dame and either Seton Hall or Rutgers.
