Grove City 11-U team heads to sections

Grove City’s 11-year-old-and-under Little League All-Star team will take on some of the best teams in the state beginning Thursday in Blairsville.
The All-Stars advanced to sectional play after topping West Middlesex 7-3 on Saturday evening at home to take the District 2 division crown.
West Middlesex led 3-2 before Grove City plated 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning and tacked on another run in the 5th to capture the title.
Jordan Anderson homered and doubled to lead Grove City at the plate. Also, Austin Wilson doubled and singled and Brett Snyder and Brendan Record both singled.
Wilson struck out 3, walked 2 and gave up all 3 runs on 4 hits in 3ê innings on the mound. Justin Griffin entered the game and pitched 2ì innings of no-hit ball. He fanned 3 and walked 3.
Zack Moats and Josh Porterfield shared mound duty for West Middlesex. Moats struck out 3, walked 8 and allowed 4 runs on 2 hits in 3ê innings. Porterfield closed out the game with no strikeouts, no walks and allowed 3 runs on 4 hits.
Offensively for West Middlesex, Porterfield belted a home run and a single and Ryan Dogan and Dylan Long both singled.
In the sectional tournament, Grove City will play either West Point, Connellsville or Moon.
