Join Lend a Hand to help flood victims

Workers needed in central PA

GROVE CITY — Lend a Hand, a disaster assistance organization sponsored by the Presbytery of Carlisle since 2005, is currently recruiting volunteers for disaster assistance in central Pennsylvania, due to recent flooding.

The opportunity to help our neighbors is LAH's top priority. It has already provided disaster assistance in central Pennsylvania. In addition, it has scheduled trips in October and November to Smithville, MS, to help those who were impacted by the tornadoes in May.

LAH is a certified VOAD organization that is registered with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Since 2005, it has had 30-plus mission's trips to Mississippi, 18 trips to Iowa and a variety of trips to Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, New York and Georgia.

Over 750 people -- ages 14 to 84 -- have volunteered to accompany LAH on these trips, with many going over 20 times. The volunteers have had various skills, and have come from 10 different Christian denominations, no church affiliation and some Jewish groups.

If you would like to know more about LAH or volunteer, call 717-731-8888 or visit www.lendahand.net.

This was the type of candor presented by Pam Stenzel for recent back-to-back programs at Grove City Alliance Church in Pine Township about sex and sexuality.
The comic relief served to lighten the mood due to much weightier subject matter Stenzel addressed at the talks; mainly, the prevalence of STDs among young women that can destroy their fertility, future Ð and even lives.
