GROVE CITY —
William J. Utsch Sr. of Grove City, formerly of Bangor, Pa., passed away Wednesday, April 7, 2010, in Trinity Living Center, Grove City. He was 89.
Mr. Utsch was born May 19, 1920, in Allentown, Pa., son of the late Vincent and Pauline Kogelman Utsch.
For 30 years, Mr. Utsch worked in the tool machine shop at the former Bethlehem (Pa.) Steel as a machinist. Bill also had been a partner at Utsch’s General Store and Gas Station, Meyers Crossing, Pa.
At other times, he worked as a van driver for Bangor Area School District and as a security guard at Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Washington Township, Pa.
Mr. Utsch was a member of Flicksville (Pa.) United Church of Christ, but had recently been a faithful listener of the Sunday radio ministry at Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City.
He had served as the committee chairman for Boy Scout Troop 38 in Bangor, and belonged to the Portland Masonic Lodge 311 Free and Accepted Masons and United Steel Workers of America.
Mr. Utsch was the widower of Arlene Dietz Wagner Utsch, who passed away in 2008. His first wife, Gladys Hartzell Utsch, also preceded him in death in 1978.
He is survived by: a daughter, Winifred Solosko of New Hampshire; two sons, Dr. Glenn Utsch, Grove City; and Douglas Utsch, Blanchester, Ohio; two stepsons, Terry and Mitchell Wagner, both Bangor; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and his wives, Mr. Utsch was preceded in death by two sons, William and Francis Utsch, and a stepson, Randy Wagner.
Memorial services will be announced at a later date.
Arrangements are being handled by James B. Gaffney Funeral Home, Bangor, and Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., Grove City.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Mr. Utsch’s name to the radio ministry at Tower Presbyterian Church, 248 S. Broad St., Grove City 16127.
