Laura A. Toskin

Fatima-St. Ann' s member leaves sister in Mercer

GREENVILLE — Obituary was published May 1, 2010.

Laura A. Toskin, 410 Indiana Ave., Farrell, passed away at 1:39 a.m. Tuesday (4-27-10) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after an extended illness. She was 93.

Mrs. Toskin was born July 29, 1916, in New Castle, a daughter of Antonio and Maria “Jessie” DePreta Tamber.

She was a 1935 graduate of Farrell High School.

A homemaker, Mrs. Toskin also was employed for more than 30 years at the former A&P grocery store in downtown Sharon and during that time belonged to the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.

She was a member of Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann' s Church, Farrell, and for many years belonged to its Bethany Club. Laura also was a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas Immaculate Heart of Mary Court 1740, Farrell.

She enjoyed being a member of the former Kiwanianne' s Club of Farrell which eventually became the Farrell Women' s Service Club.

Mrs. Toskin was a kind and gentle spirit whose smile seemed to fill the room; she will be missed by her many friends and family.

Her husband, Anthony T. Toskin, whom she married Oct. 2, 1941, entered eternal rest Jan. 6, 2004.

She leaves: her son, Frank A. Toskin and his fiance Cindy McGrath, Hermitage; a brother, former District Justice Frank J. Tamber, Farrell; her goddaughter and caregiver, Maria Waechter, Hermitage; and a sister, Sylvia Munger, Mercer; and numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and -nephews, and great-great-nieces and -nephews.

Besides her husband, Laura was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Rose Celenzi and Ann Marini; and six brothers, Joseph, Louis, Thomas, Michael and Carmen Tamber; and Anthony Tamber Jr.

Mass of Christian burial was Friday (4-30-10) in Our Lady of Fatima-St. Ann' s Church, Farrell, with the Rev. Donald E. Berdis, pastor of the church, and Monsignor Salvatore P. Mitchell, retired priest, as concelebrants. A brief prayer service was also held in the funeral home.

Interment was in St. Anthony' s Cemetery, Hermitage.
