Shirley H. Smith, a resident for 40 years of Mercer-Butler Pike, Liberty Township, passed away at 2:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 28, 2010, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was 74.
Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 28, 1936, in New Lebanon, Pa., to Ernest and Sara McCauthery Peterson.
She was in the last graduating class from Sandy Lake High School.
Shirley was a homemaker and formerly worked in the cafeteria for Grove City Area School District.
As a member of North Liberty Presbyterian Church, Shirley formerly sang in the church choir. She enjoyed spending time with her family.
Her husband, Leroy Smith, whom she married Dec. 10, 1958, survives at home.
Also surviving are: two daughters, Kimberly Albert and her husband Donald, Harrisville; and Linda Hogue and her husband Brian, Jackson Center; two grandchildren, Kristen Allison and her husband Brian, Slippery Rock; and Brandon Hogue, Jackson Center; a great-granddaughter, Riley Allison, Slippery Rock; her mother-in-law, Edna Smith, Harrisville; and five sisters, Maxine Huff, West Middlesex; Linda Gruver and her husband Kenny, Greenville; Jane Haskins and her husband Skip, Fort Myers, Fla.; Beverly Jewel and her husband Bill, Fredonia; and Gladys McKay and her husband Kenny, Mercer.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Patricia Dick; and a brother, Ernest Peterson.

Funeral service at 11 a.m. today (5-1-10) in the funeral home with the Rev. Jerry Mahaffey, pastor of North Liberty Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment in North Liberty Cemetery.
