HERMITAGE —
Elizabeth S. Rea, who made her home for the last 81/2 years with her daughter at 3666 Marylane Drive in Hermitage, and previously lived at 772 Barkeyville Road, Pine Township, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Friday (2-15-13) in Nugent Convalescent Home, Hermitage, following a brief illness. She was 95.
Libby was born in Lambert, Pa., on June 9, 1917, to Stephen and Cecilia Gesinski Czeczot. Her mother passed away when Libby was 5, and shortly thereafter her father, a native of Poland, became an American citizen and the family name was changed to Shelott. Her father later remarried and Libby had a wonderful stepmother, Pearl Banshak Shelott.
Elizabeth went to work at age 16 at Greensburg Glass Factory and worked there for eight years. During World War II, she worked at the Naval Engineering Experiment Station at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., and later at the Spot Lite Cleaners and Fabric Mart in Annapolis.
She married John Hudak on Aug. 17, 1938. He passed away on Aug. 4, 1952.
She then met Burton Rea and they eloped on her birthday, June 9, 1953. After 43 years of marriage, Burt passed away on May 7, 1996. They enjoyed gardening and camping. They made two cross-country camping trips after his retirement.
Libby is survived by: her daughter, Susan Rea Hohman and her husband, Mark, Hermitage; and her son, Stephen Rea and his wife, Sue, Volant. Also surviving are: six grandchildren, Chris and his wife, Wendy Hohman, Greenville; Anna Hohman, Hermitage; Lora Hohman and her fiance, Ryan Podgorny, Erie; Lisa Schepp and her husband, John, New Wilmington; Cody Rea and Dustin Rea, Volant; and four great-grandchildren, Anastasia Hohman, West Middlesex; Rogan Podgorny, Erie; and J.R. Schepp and Wiley Schepp, New Wilmington. She is also survived by: a stepson, Samuel Rea and his wife, Dene, Slippery Rock; four stepgrandchildren, Cara, Brian, Bruce and Barry; three stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Dolores Annunzi, Loris, S.C.; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands and parents, Libby was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Crane; and two brothers, James Shelott and Arthur Shelott.
Elizabeth faithfully attended Church of Notre Dame in Hermitage and enjoyed being a member of the parish family there.
Finally, in her own words as she wrote a partial self-obituary, Libby "enjoyed crocheting and doing crafts on plastic canvas. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family birthday parties and holiday get-togethers." We will miss you, Mom.
