MERCER —
John Leroy "Jack" Coryea, Millburn Road, Springfield Township, died at 12:55 a.m. Saturday (11-17-12) at Countryside Nursing Home, Mercer. He was 74.
Mr. Coryea was born March 11, 1938 in Fairview Township, Mercer County to Frederick Milton and Elizabeth Ardell King Coryea.
He started school at No. 5 Mine and finished at Grove City High School. He enlisted in the Army and served his country. He was stationed in Germany.
He married Joanne L. Polding on Dec. 23, 1982. He retired from George Junior Republic in Grove City in 2002, where he worked in security.
Mr. Coryea was affiliated with White Chapel United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion No. 584 at No. 5 Mine. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a fan of NASCAR. His greatest joy was his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, at home; three step-children, Dean "Bob" Gerber and his wife, Tannie, of Mercer; Jean Douglas and her husband, James, of New Wilmington; Penni Hilliard and her husband, George, of Butler, Pa.; two sisters, Mary Ellen (George) McCullough, of Bowerstown, Ohio; Shirley Sterner (Kenny) of Grove City; five grandchildren, two great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Jimmy and Bob Coryea and two sisters, Dorothy Shaffer and Donna Wilmouth.
Calling hours were Nov. 19, 2012, in Smith Funeral Home, Volant.
Services were Nov. 20, 2012, at the funeral home.
Burial in Carpenter Cemetery, Springfield Township, with full military honors by the West Middlesex American Legion and Wheatland Veterans of Foreign Wars.
