James N. Lawrence Sr.

Steel industry retiree lived in Mercer, enjoyed hobbies

SHARON — James N. Lawrence Sr. of Mercer passed away at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System and in the company of family members. He was 73.

Mr. Lawrence was born Feb. 27, 1939, in Lynchburg, Va., a son of William and Nettie Lawrence.

He was raised in Lynchburg and moved to the Pittsburgh area in the late 1960s before relocating to Mercer.

James worked a combined 50 years in the steel industry and retired from WCI Steel in Ohio.

He was a member of the United Steelworkers and Local 1375 union.

James enjoyed four-wheeling, hunting, fishing, gun collecting and woodworking.

He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Patricia Lepera Lawrence; and three children, five stepchildren, 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
