STONEBORO —
Heather L. McConnell of 241 Hunter Road, Stoneboro, passed away peacefully at 3:05 a.m. Thursday (1-3-13) in her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 44.
Born June 20, 1968, in Charlestown, S.C., Mrs. McConnell was a daughter of Ronald I. and Marta A. Procner Wygant.
Heather was a 1986 graduate of Lakeview High School and a 1990 graduate of Slippery Rock University with a degree in communications. She later returned to Slippery Rock and earned an additional degree in education.
She started teaching for Americorps in Commodore Perry School District, then in Sharpsville Area School District, and most recently taught at Lakeview schools in the Head Start program.
She loved being a teacher and loved being with children.
She also had worked at The Trader Horn, Grove City.
Heather was a member of Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, where she had taught Sunday school.
She loved animals and going for walks and enjoyed traveling and going to Virginia to visit relatives.
Her husband, Todd A. McConnell, whom she married Aug. 31, 1991, survives at home.
Also surviving are a daughter, Andrea L. McConnell; and a son, Todd A. "TJ" McConnell Jr., both at home; her parents, Ron and Marta Wygant; and a brother, Shawn B. Wygant, all Sandy Lake; and many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends, who will miss her wonderful smile.
She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Grampy and Gummy Procner; and paternal grandparents, Tom and Peg Wygant.
Calling hours were Sunday (1-6-13) in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro.
Funeral was Monday (1-7-13) in Sandy Lake Presbyterian Church, 3461 Sandy Lake-New Lebanon Road, with the Rev. Charles E. Crane, pastor of Irwin Presbyterian Church, Worth Township, officiating.
Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
