BUTLER —
Charles Edward Stewart, Sunset Avenue, Grove City, died at 10:10 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 29, 2012, in VNA Inpatient Hospice, Butler, following a brief illness. He was 79.
Mr. Stewart was born Nov. 24, 1933, in Harlan, Ky., to George Washington Stewart and Jessie Mae McFarland Stewart.
He married Lois Anita Turner on July 25, 1959.
Charles worked in manufacturing and sales before retiring in 2001 from the Department of Corrections in Cambridge Springs, where he worked for nine years.
He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Grove City, where he served as president of the church council.
Charles received his bachelor's degree from the University of Cincinnati in 1967 and his MBA from Xavier University, Cincinnati, in 1970.
He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany.
He was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 603, Grove City and was formerly a member of Grove City Kiwanis Club.
Charles enjoyed working on genealogy involving his family history.
He was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels in Grove City.
He is survived by his wife, Lois, at home; three children, John C. Stewart and wife Lynn, Gibsonia, Allegheny County; Carla J. Foster and her husband Walt, Melbourne, Fla.; and David C. Stewart and his wife Lisa, Olathe, Colo.; seven grandchildren, Clair Carringer, Patience Valdez, Jesse Bugos, Isaac Foster, and Abigail, Katherine and Ethan Stewart; two great-grandchildren, Kamala and Zoe; three sisters, Betty Gross and her husband John, Hamilton, Ohio; and Judith Everidge and Sharon Adkins, both Kentucky; three brothers, Roger Stewart and his wife Marylyn; Jimmy Stewart and his wife Glenda; and Billy Ray Stewart, all Kentucky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Michael Bachelor, Bob Stewart and George Washington Stewart II; and one sister, Sandra Gail Amburgy.
Memorial service will be announced at a later date.
