Daniel Edward Surrena, formerly of West Liberty Road, West Liberty Borough, died at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, in Chicora Medical Center, Fairview Township, Butler County. He was 96.
Mr. Surrena was born July 15, 1916 in Marton Township, Butler County, to Harry Martin and Wilda Bell Martland Surrena.
He had worked for 23 years at Pittsburgh Limestone in Annadale, Pa., where he had been a shuttle car operator. He then worked for 20 years at Penreco Refinery in Karns City, where he retired as a supervisor.
Mr. Surrena was a member of the West Liberty United Methodist Church.
He enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, traveling and card games.
Surviving are: two sons, Daniel O. Surrena, husband of Donna, Chicora; and Robert P. Surrena, Mesa, Ariz.; a stepson, Raymond McGinnis Jr., Apple Valley, Calif.; a daughter, Wilda Ann Lopez, Converse City, Colo.; two stepdaughters, Nancy Tiche, Slippery Rock; and Evelyn Newton, wife of Max, Portersville; 32 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three wives, Jean Phipps, Mary G. Arblaster Edwards and Dorothy Louise Baker McGinnis; a son, Hilton Surrena; an infant son; four stepdaughters, Linda Kelly, Lois Faye Montest, Ann ÒTinkerÓ Hiwiller and Jeannie; a stepgrandson, Denny Kelly; six brothers, Martin, Bert, Claude, Paul, Merle and Earl; three sisters, May McKean, Myrtle Simons and Marie Webster; a grandson, Jesse Surrena; a stepgrandson, Denny Kelly; a stepgranddaughter, Regina; and two son-in-laws, Denny Kelly Sr.; and Eugene Tiche.
Visitation was Thursday (12-20-12) in Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock.
Funeral service was Friday (12-21-12) in the funeral home, with the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of West Liberty United Methodist Church; and Rev. Kenton Shaw, retired pastor, formerly of Wayside Covenant Church, Grove City, officiating. Interment in Clintonville M.E. Cemetery, Venango County.
