NEW CASTLE —
J. Russell Kerr, formerly of North Broad Street, New Castle, passed away Sunday morning, Dec. 16, 2012, in Jameson Care Center, New Castle. He was 84.
Born April 15, 1928, in Harlansburg, Mr. Kerr was a son of Oliver and Lela Belle Patterson Kerr.
During the Korean conflict, he served in the Navy.
Russell was employed as a salesman with McCandless Ford in Mercer. He enjoyed cars, racing, NASCAR, golf and spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Russell attended First Baptist Church of New Castle.
He was preceded in death in August 2010 by his wife, Helen Winger Kerr, whom he married Sept. 23, 1978. Previously he was married to Sydney Rodgers Shumaker. She survives.
Russell was a graduate of the former Eastbrook High School, New Castle.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Rhonda and Dan Wagner; Jamie Kerr; and Kimberly and Rod McCormick, all New Castle; four stepdaughters and their spouses, Sherri and Tim Nesbit, Grove City; Billie and Ron Johnston, Texas; Colleen and Bob Fabry, Grove City; and Stacey and Clyde Saletta, North Carolina; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Dana and Cody Carlisle; David Presnar; Kaycee and Tim Aubel; Lisa and J. J. Robertson; Dwayne Presnar; Nicolette and Luke O«Hara; and James Micco; eight stepgrandchildren and their spouses, Aubrey and Scott Turnbow; Shelby and Jason Coldiron; and Mieke Large, Khirah Nesbit, Saskia Cohick, Zack Nesbit, Rachel Saletta and Chad Saletta; two great-grandchildren and 14 stepgreat-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Helen, he was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Wendell, Vernon and George; and twin brother, Ron Kerr; a sister, Margaret Wagner; and a stepgrandson, Will Fabry.

Funeral service was Wednesday (12-19-12) in the funeral home with the Rev. John Yergan officiating.
Burial in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township. Full military honors were presented by the New Castle Area Honor Guard.
