BUTLER COUNTY —
Thomas Loyal Shaffer, Worth Township, Butler County, died suddenly on state Route 422, Muddy Creek Township, Butler County, due to a motorcycle accident at 6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012. He was 49.
Mr. Shaffer was born Feb. 6, 1963 in New Castle to H. Loyal and B. Berneice Houston Shaffer.
He was a sheet metal worker for Local Union 12, Pittsburgh; and owned and operated Shaffer Excavating.
Mr. Shaffer was a member of Unity Baptist Church, Harlansburg, where he served as a trustee.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, riding dirt bikes and motorcycles, conversing with his family and friends, working on vehicles and going to the beach. He was a people person with a big smile and a great sense of humor, with a love of flea markets, Craig's List, and his blue heeler dogs.
He married Michele Rene Brethauer on Aug. 8, 1987. She survives.
Also surviving are: two daughters, Andrea Rae and Katie Elizabeth Shaffer; a son, Luke Thomas Shaffer, all at home; a sister, Janet L. McClymonds, wife of Mark, Portersville; his mother, Portersville; and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Calling hours were Nov. 21, 2012, in Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock, and Nov. 23, 2012, in Unity Baptist Church, Harlansburg, with the Rev. Zachary Charles Dudenhofer, pastor; and the Rev. Jerry Caskey, former pastor of the church, presiding.
Interment in Unity Baptist Cemetery, Harlansburg.
