Charles W. 'Chis' Bastyr Sr. of West Prairie Street, Harrisville, died at 12.30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, in the Visiting Nurses Association Inpatient Hospice of Butler. He was 84.
Mr. Bastyr was born Sept. 10, 1928, in Pittsburgh to Frank A. Bastyr and Agnes Stasek Bastyr.
He was a graduate of North Catholic High School, Pittsburgh.
Mr. Bastyr was employed at the former Satec of Grove City, where he was a department foreman. After retirement he worked various part-time jobs.
A veteran of the Air Force, he belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 519, Grove City; and American Legion Post 852, Hamsville.
He also belonged to St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, Forestville; and was a life member of Knights of Columbus and Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Butler. He was a former member of the Elks Lodge 1579, Grove City.
Mr. Bastyr enjoyed playing cards and gambling and was a member of various golf leagues at Pine Grove Golf Course.
His wife, the former Ruth N. Wehner, whom he married May 17, 1951, died May 19, 2004.
Surviving are: a daughter, Cheryl A. Hubbard and her husband Gary, Grove City; three sons, Charles W. Bastyr Jr. and his wife Lydia, Tulsa, Okla.; Ronald J. Bastyr and his domestic partner Mark Page, Rancho Mirage, Calif.; and Richard L. Bastyr and his wife April, Highland Township, Mich.; and six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, Mr. Bastyr was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.

Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. today (10-10-12) in St. Anthony Roman Catholic Church, Forestville, with the Rev. Kevin G. Poecking, pastor, as celebrant.
Burial in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
