Dorothy S. McDade of 365 Fairview Road, Fairview Township, passed away with her family at her side at 6:35 p.m. Tuesday evening (10-2-12) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. She was 82.
Mrs. McDade was born Nov. 6, 1929, in Sharon to Frederick and Elsie Stopp Sweitzer.
She was a 1947 graduate of Sharon High School, where she excelled at basketball and was named to the All-State Team.
She retired from Anderson Insurance, Grove City, where she worked as an insurance agent for more than 20 years. She was previously employed as an agent at McCliman's and Barrett Insurance Co., Greenville, and Gilbert's Insurance, Sharon.
She was of the Methodist faith.
Dorothy was an avid bowler and from 1966-71, she and her husband owned and operated Reynolds Bowling Lanes.
She participated in many local, state and national bowling tournaments, and in 1981, was the first woman bowler to roll a 700 series in the Shenango Valley Women's Bowling Association. In 1984, her team, that included her daughters, won the Lilac City Tournament in Rochester, N.Y.
In addition, Dorothy loved spending time with her family and friends, watching Steelers games, cooking, and playing Scrabble with her best friend of 46 years, Ronda Reichard.
She married the love of her life, Paul F. McDade, on Feb. 14, 1952; he survives.
Also surviving are: two daughters, Patricia Frye and Janet L. McDade, both Mercer; four grandchildren, W. Paul Frye; Travis Marstellar and his wife Rochelle; Hayden Hawthorne and his wife Becca; and Shaina Hawthorne; and four great-grandchildren, Emma, Leigha, Alexa and Haylee.
Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life.
She is also survived by a son-in-law, Lee Hawthorne, Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Nancy E. Hawthorne, with whom she is now reunited; a sister, Mary Zahuranec; and two brothers, William Sweitzer and Carl "Sonny" Sweitzer.

Funeral and committal was Friday (10-5-12) in the funeral home, with the Rev. Eric M. Peters, pastor of Fredonia Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment in Delaware Township Cemetery.
