Lawrence "Larry" B. Whitehouse, Wolf Creek Township, died at 8:45 a.m. Friday (2-8-13) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township. He was 78.
He was born Aug. 13, 1934, in Mercer to Lawrence H. and Anna Winder Whitehouse.
On May 23, 1956, he married Ruth M. Jones. She survives.
He retired in 1996 from Joy Global Manufacturing of Franklin, where he was a welder for 26 years. He formerly was employed as a welder for Sharon Steel Corp. and Cooper Energy.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Grove City.
Larry served in the Army with the 508th Airborne in Japan from 1954 to 1956.
Following his military career he attended New Castle School of Trades to become a stone mason and bricklayer. Along with his wife, they built their home together.
He raced modified stock cars from 1965 to 1985 at local tracks and was an avid bowler in leagues in the area.
Larry enjoyed collecting antique gasoline-powered engines and was a member of the Mercer County Antique Power Association.
He was a fun-loving grandpa with a sense of humor who enjoyed spending a lot of time with his family. He was an example of a dedicated man quietly serving the Lord.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Terry L. Whitehouse and his wife Janet, Grove City; three grandchildren, Jaclyn and Jeremy Whitehouse, both Grove City; and Jill Cerverizzo and her husband Craig, Jacksonville, Fla.; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Margaret Stillwagon, Harrisville; Lucille Peckman, Monroeville; and Eleanor Ward, Sandy Lake; and two brothers, Walter Whitehouse and George Whitehouse and his wife Alice, Jackson Center. Many nieces and nephews also survive.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Whitehouse; and a sister, Ruth Pacak.
Calling hours are Sunday (2-17-13) in First Baptist Church, Grove City.
Memorial service is Sunday in the church, with the Rev. David Johnson, pastor, officiating.
Burial in Union Home Cemetery, Wolf Creek Township.
