MERCER —
Lillie D. Smajstrla Frydrych of Mercer passed away late Thursday evening, Jan. 17, 2013. She was 91.
Mrs. Frydrych was born Sept. 6, 1921, in Victoria, Texas, to Emil and Albina Shramek Smajstrla.
She grew up in Victoria and attended The Guadalupe School.
Before getting married to Walter, she worked as a bookkeeper in a local creamery in Victoria.
She was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Mercer. In her earlier years, she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society and taught Sunday school classes.
She was also active in 4-H.
Lillie loved the outdoors, especially tending to her flower beds and garden. She loved to bake and cook for everyone.
She was a very creative seamstress, always making clothes for her children and helping others. She also enjoyed dancing and music.
She is survived by: her eight children, Jeanette and her husband Richard Murcko, Hermitage; Mary Ann Frydrych, Austintown, Ohio; Kathy Heister and her husband Michael Roseman, Mercer; Margaret and her husband Terry Stahle, Hagerstown, Md.; Andrew Frydrych and his wife Ruth, Grove City; David Frydrych, Volant; John Frydrych, West Middlesex; and Robert Frydrych, Naples, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a brother, George Smajstrla, two nephews, John and Jimmy Smajstrla, and a niece, Jean Smajstrla, all Victoria.
Lillie was preceded in death by her husband, Walter; her parents; a sister, Agnes Analora; and two brothers, Julius and Edwin Smajstrla.
Mass of Christian burial was Monday (1-21-13) in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Mercer, with the Rev. James Kennelley, church priest, as celebrant.
Interment in All Saint's Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
