PITTSBURGH —
Robert Eugene Bartholomew of Mercer-New Castle Road, Springfield Township, passed away about 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, in UPMC Mercy, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. He was 77.
Mr. Bartholomew was born June 28, 1935, in Springfield Township to Sylvester and Florence Reeher Barthol-omew.
He was a bridge inspector for Mercer County Bridge Department, retiring Jan. 5, 1999.
He enjoyed fishing, boating, hunting and working with his farm animals.
He was extremely active in the Amish community and enjoyed spending time with his family.
His wife, the former Nancy G. Buckley, whom he married March 16, 1957, died March 5, 1998.
Surviving are: a daughter, Norma J. Bartholomew, New Wilmington; three sisters, Helen Scott, Sheakleyville; Betty Murdock, Mercer; and Mary Partridge, Sheakleyville; four grandsons, Michael P. Casteel and his wife Heather, Grove City; Jason W. Casteel, Greenville; Lance A. Dickey and his companion Christa, Slippery Rock; and Charles Airgood III, Greenville; and six great-grandchildren, Cody K. Casteel, Chelsie N. Casteel, Jason W. Casteel Jr., Isabella G. Casteel, Garrett L. Airgood and Bryson W. Dickey.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter; Cheryl Sochor.
Calling hours are 4:30 p.m. to time of service today (1-19-13) in Smith Funeral Home of Leesburg, 1778 Perry Highway, Springfield Township.
Funeral service at 6:30 p.m. today in the funeral home, with the Rev. James Lewis, pastor of West Liberty United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment in Carpenter Cemetery, Springfield Township.
