GROVE CITY —
Betty Myrtle Simpkins, Harlansburg Road, Scott Township, Lawrence County, died at 2 a.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013 in Trinity Living Center, Grove City. She was 89.
Ms. Simpkins was born Aug. 7, 1923 in Pittsburgh to Butch and May A. Young Zapf Wilhelm.
She graduated from Oliver High School in Pittsburgh where she was 24th in her class of 350 students.
She had been a police officer for the City of Pittsburgh; and was an owner of Chuck's Farm Market on Route 108 in Scott Township, where she made candy and baked goods, and sold fruits and vegetables with other farm-market items.
Ms. Simpkins was a Protestant. She was a member of ABBA Christian Center, Slippery Rock.
She loved to fish and was an awesome cook and baker. She was greatly loved by her family and friends.
Surviving are: four daughters, Darla May Harper, wife of Robert, Columbus, Ohio; Dixie Lee Reeder, New Castle; Denise Natzic, Slippery Rock; and Antonnette Pearl Goldbach, Slippery Rock; a stepdaughter, Sandy Househalter, Volant; two stepsons, Wayne Simpkins, in Florida; and Bruce Simpkins, Pittsburgh; eight grandchildren, Pam and Jay Harper, Betty Jo Sharek and Micky Holmes, Chad Goldbach and Mark Daughtery, Tiffany Natzic, Wyatt Natzic; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a son, Richard Zellner.
The family held a private memorial service.
