LeHIGH ACRES —
Full military honors will be Jan. 19 for Robert "Bob" G. Shutt of 1226 Archdale St., Lehigh Acres, formerly of Linden Street, Stoneboro, who passed away peacefully Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, in Lehigh Acres after an extended illness. He was 87.
Mr. Shutt was born March 12, 1925, in Vandergrift, Pa., to Glenn and Esther Shutt.
He served in the Army during World War II and received the Bronze Star and two Purple Heart medals.
On Jan. 6, 1947, he married his wife of 66 years, Virginia Reither Shutt. They moved to Stoneboro in 1950 and lived there until they relocated to Florida in 1990.
Mr. Shutt retired after 33 years of service from what was then Polk State School and Hospital, where he was the head butcher.
After retirement, Bob volunteered for the Lakeview Area Meals on Wheels program and delivered meals to many local residents.
Mr. Shutt was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lake Lodge 434, Sandy Lake; and American Legion Post 3232 of Lehigh Acres.
He was a trustee and elder in the Presbyterian Church in Lehigh Acres.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Virginia Reither Shutt, Lehigh Acres; two daughters, Barbara Smith and her husband Ron; and Debra Bowman and her husband Jeff, all Florida; two grandchildren, Jayne Kepner and her husband Nate, Sandy Lake; and Jonathan Egger, Plaistow, N.H.; and two great-granddaughters, Zoe and Delaney Kepner, both Sandy Lake.
Memorial service with full military honors at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, in Lee Memorial Cemetery, Route 82, Fort Myers, Fla.
