NEW CASTLE —
John Richard 'Dick' Blair, Harlansburg Road, Scott Township, Lawrence County, died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012, in Jameson Hospital, New Castle. He was 83.
Mr. Blair was born Jan. 30, 1929 in Irwin Township, Venango County, to Loyal Claude and Dorothy Elaine Cokain Blair.
He was a life-long farmer and also sold International Farm Equipment with Wick Implement in Slippery Rock. He later worked for H.W. Cooper, where he was a concrete mixer driver and drove block truck. He then worked for Penn Power as a boiler operator until his retirement in 1991.
Mr. Blair was a member of Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, where he had served as both a trustee and elder.
He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 603, Grove City; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, New Castle; and the Mercer County Antique Pullers Association; and member and past president of the Western Pennsylvania Antique Pullers Association.
His hobbies included restoring antique tractors.
Mr. Blair married Esther Vera Glunt Aug. 23, 1950. She preceded him in death on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008.
Surviving are: four sons, Rodney N., husband of Beverly, Slippery Rock; Charles R., husband of Kay, Reading, W.Va.; Michael A., companion to Mary Lou Ehrenberg, New Castle; and Brian P., husband of Janice, Wampum; a daughter, Darla M. McCandless, wife of Robert, Slippery Rock; a brother, Leonard Lee Blair, Franklin; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Elton N. Blair.
Calling hours were Friday (10-12-12) in Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock, with a masonic service; and at 10 a.m. until the time of the service today (10-13-12) in Plain Grove Presbyterian Church, 620 Plaingrove Road, Plain Grove Township.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. today in the church, with the Rev. Dr. F. Stanley Keehlwetter, officiating.
Interment in South Plain Grove Cemetery.
