EAST LACKAWANNOCK TWP —
Sandra Lee Byers Gill of Sharon-Mercer Road, East Lackawannock Township, died Friday morning (10-5-12) in her residence. She was 71.
Mrs. Gill was born at the family farm in Pulaski, on April 20, 1941. She was a daughter of William Herbert Byers Sr. and Margaret L. Peterson Byers.
She graduated from West Middlesex High School in 1959 and was a 1962 graduate of what was then Sharon General Hospital School of Nursing, as a graduate nurse.
She worked at Sharon General on the former second middle floor and also in the barbian unit. She also worked for Dr. Howard Miller.
On July 18, 1964, Sandra married to David B. Gill at Neshannock Presbyterian Church in New Wilmington, by the Rev. Dr. Victor Dawe.
Sandra took several years off from working to stay home and raise their four daughters, Terrie, Paula, Wendy and Kelly. In November 1977, she began driving school bus for Watson's Inc. and worked at Watson's for nearly 35 years, retiring in July 2012.
She enjoyed transporting school children for Mercer Area School District and most recently driving adult clients to and from work at MCAR. During her years of bus driving, she had the opportunity to touch the lives of many young people. She had a special place in her heart for the people who were on her MCAR routes.
Sandra was like a second mother to many of her daughters' friends. She never realized until she became ill just what an impact she had made on so many people through the years, and just how very loved she was. She very much enjoyed and appreciated all of the cards, visits and phone calls she received during her illness.
She enjoyed baking, canning, gardening, sewing, spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren's activities.
Sandra was a member of Mercer United Methodist Church.
She lived simply and honestly and always put others before herself.
Sandra is survived by her husband of 48 years, David B. Gill, Mercer; four daughters, Terrie and her husband John Gregory and their children, Jacob, Emilee and Abigail, Dalton, Ohio; Paula and her husband David Kovach and their children, Caleb and Grace, North Canton, Ohio; Wendy and her husband Chad Dancak and their children, Gillian Fisher and Cassandra, Sharpsville; and Kelly and her husband Ed Kincaid and their children, Heather, Tyler, Brady and Casey, Greenville; an 'adopted' daughter, known lovingly as 'No. 5,' Kimberly Allen Anzevino and her husband Bryon and their children, Cameron, Evan and Audra, Sharpsville; a brother, William H. Byers Jr. and his wife Patricia, New Wilmington; and sister, Brenda J. and her husband Chet Cameron, Pulaski; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Lorene F. McKinney.
Calling hours were Sunday (10-7-12) in Smith Funeral Home, New Wilmington; and Monday (10-8-12) in Mercer United Methodist Church, Mercer.
Service was Monday in the church, with the Rev. Eric C. Leonard, pastor of Mercer United Methodist Church, and the Rev. William H. Stone Jr., pastor of Neshannock Presbyterian Church, New Wilmington, presiding.
Interment in Mount Washington Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
