Charles Michael Gordon

Cook at valley restaurants has uncle in Grove City

GREENVILLE — Charles Michael Gordon of Greenville, departed this life Thursday (9-27-12) in UPMC Horizon, Greenville. He was 48.

Mr. Gordon, affectionately known as Michael, was born Feb. 2, 1964, in Sharon, a son of Carroll Franklin and Rebecka Margetta Haynes.

He attended Farrell High School and achieved his high school diploma through the Job Corps in 1982. 

He was formerly employed as a prep cook with various restaurants in the Shenango Valley. 

He loved to spend his spare time fishing and sharing his catch with his family and friends.

On July 28, 1989, he married the former Melba Jean Cozart, who passed away July 29, 2000.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving children, Jacoby Moss, Allentown; Devon Taylor, Sharon; Michael and Nathan Johnson, both Brookfield; and Charmel Gordon, Sharon; two stepdaughters, Chiffon McCray, Youngstown; and Daronica Cozart, Farrell; six sisters, Jaenice Scott, Marlboro, Md.; Leslie and her husband, the Rev. Larry Johnson, Wheatland; Adrienne Gordon; and the Rev. Jennifer L. and her husband Robert Campbell, all Farrell; Kimberly Venable-Benson, Salisbury, N.C.; and Michelle Gordon, Hermitage; his brother, Minister Jeffery and his wife Lannette Gordon, Farrell; his great aunts, Irene Johnson, Farrell; Biddy Ann Brooks, Erie; his uncle, Joseph Brooks, Grove City; his "second mother," Doretha Williams, New Castle; his godsister, Linda Petway, Sharon; six grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends including his faithful and precious dog, Poncho.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his maternal and paternal grandparents; two brothers, Carroll and Franklin "Pudgie" Gordon; a great nephew, Giovanni Gordon; and a niece, Doniece Allen.

The family received friends Wednesday (10-3-12) in New and Living Way Apostolic Church of Jesus Christ, Farrell. Friends also called at the home of Shamera Gordon, Farrell. Please visit jewashingtonfuneralservices.com to leave condolences or to sign the online guestbook.

Funeral service was Wednesday in the church with Bishop Alvin J. McCoy officiating and the Rev. Jennifer Campbell as eulogist.
