Della M. Moon Armstrong Dick

Former JC woman, 101, taught Sunday school

SHARON — Della M. Moon Armstrong Dick of Avalon Springs, Coolspring Township, formerly of Jackson Center, went to be with her Lord at 4:25 p.m. Thursday (1-31-13) in the emergency room of Sharon Regional Health System. She was 101.

Born April 2, 1911, in Jackson Center, Mrs. Dick was a daughter of John Rankin and Elfie Blanche Turner Moon.

She attended Jackson Center and Mercer schools.

Mrs. Dick worked for 29 years as an assembler and tester at the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp.

She belonged to the United Methodist Church and Sunday school. Mrs. Dick taught children's Sunday school classes for 37 years, having taught some of those years at Center United Methodist Church, Polk.

She had served on Jackson Center borough council and Lakeview Area School Board for 26 years and was a former member and president of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), Jackson Center local.

Della married Lewis E. Armstrong April 28, 1928, who in his later years pastored Center United Methodist Church. He preceded her in death May 15, 1971. She then married Harold G. Dick on Aug. 10, 1986, in Yucaipa, Calif.; he died in 1996.

Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy M. Christy, Sandy Lake; two grandchildren, Duane Christy and his wife Debra, Jackson Center; and Steven Christy, Sandy Lake; a grandson-in-law, Joseph Stewart, Princeton, Ill.; two stepgrandchildren, Margaret Ann Wilson and her husband Ron, Arizona; and James H. Williams and his wife Linda, Texas; seven great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Luceille Urmson, Transfer; and three brothers, L. Raymond Moon and his wife Vivian, Mercer; the Rev. Paul R. Moon, Waterford, Mich.; and J. Russell Moon and his wife Penny, Belle Vernon, Pa.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Donna Mae Stewart; a stepgranddaughter, Susan Davis; two stepdaughters, Esther L. Williams and Shirley D. Tilton; four sisters, Dorothy H. Moon, Madeline Roper, Florence Campbell and Blanche McClearn; and four brothers, J. Perry Moon, Wallace E. Moon, Allen R. Moon and Kenneth V. Moon.

Calling hours were Sunday (2-3-13) in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro.

Funeral and committal service was Monday (2-4-13) in the funeral home, with the Rev. Russell D. Hines, pastor of St. Mark's United Church of Christ, Meadville, officiating.

Interment in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
