Findley man enjoyed the outdoors, family time

PITTSBURGH — Dan E. Layton of Findley Township, passed away on Thursday (1-24-13) in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. He was 76.

Mr. Layton was born Jan. 19, 1937, in Breezewood, Bedford County, to Edgar and Eunice Clark Layton.

He was a member of Balm United Methodist Church, Blacktown, and Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 603, Grove City.

He was a woodsman, hunter and a great outdoorsman.

Following retirement, Dan and his wife, the former Dorothy M. Heasley, whom he married Oct. 28, 1955, enjoyed traveling within the U.S. and abroad. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his family.

Survivors include: Dan's wife, Dorothy, at home; four children, Daniel L. Layton and his wife Helen, Concord, Ohio; Debra L. Tobias and her husband Dennis, Mercer; Diana L. Cochran and her husband Raymond, Grove City; and Denise M. Ferguson and her husband Michael, Grove City; eight grandchildren, Nicole Cochran Beattie, Martinsburg, W.Va.; Daniel Layton, Concord; Bryan Tobias, Thornton, Colo.; Steven Cochran, Grove City; David Layton and Hannah Layton, both Concord; and Jennifer Ferguson and Michaela Ferguson, both Grove City; a sister, Violet Cole, Wisconsin; and a brother, Don Layton and his wife Ann, Jackson Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Pauline Mills; and two brothers, Richard and Earl Layton.

Calling hours are 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday (1-27-13) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

Funeral service at 11 a.m. Monday (1-28-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, officiating.
