COOLSPRING —
Rachael V. Shawgo, formerly of Collegeview Towers and Poplar Street, both Grove City, died at 2:15 a.m. Sunday (1-13-13) in Avalon Springs, Coolspring Township, after an extended illness. She was 96.
Mrs. Shawgo was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Bowling Green, Ky., to Nels and Nancy L. Mansfield Nordrum.
She was a 1934 graduate of Sharon High School.
Rachael married Edgar L. Shawgo on Nov. 1, 1934. He preceded her in death on March 15, 1988.
She was a homemaker and a 75-year member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City.
Rachael also belonged to Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 86, Grove City, and the White Shrine.
She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and fishing in Canada. Rachael liked helping others, whether it was taking them for appointments or shopping.
She is survived by two daughters, Donna Baker, Slippery Rock; and Nancy Ney and husband Richard, New Braunfels, Texas; six grandchildren, Verna McCarl and her husband Scott, Stoneboro; Valerie Miller and her husband Mervin, Orwell, Ohio; Wendy Haywood and her husband Ron, Irmo, S.C.; Deborah Brandon and her husband James, Slippery Rock; Jeffrey Ford and his wife Beth, Pittsburgh; and Tom Ford and his wife Wendy, North Carolina; and 12 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Edward Shawgo; and four sisters and three brothers.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today (1-16-13) in Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Funeral service at 10 a.m. Thursday (1-17-13) in the funeral home.
Burial in Crestview Memorial Park, Inc., Pine Township.
