Warren S. Saunders, Grove City, died at 6:40 a.m. Sunday (1-13-13) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township. He was 73.
He was born March 16, 1939, in Mount Lebanon to Reuben W. and Martha Scott Saunders.
He married Donna M. Lockhart on Aug. 13, 1966. She survives.
A 1957 graduate of Mount Lebanon High School, he attended California University of Pennsylvania for three years and then enlisted in the Navy, serving from 1960 to 1964.
Warren was employed in the lumber business, working for the former Z&L Lumber, Mercer; Montgomery Lumber, Grove City; and Lorenzi Lumber, Washington, Pa.
He was also employed with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, Findley Township and Cambridge Springs, as a prison guard until his retirement in 2001.
He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City.
He formerly belonged to the Grove City Elks Club and he liked golfing and playing tennis. During his retirement he enjoyed woodworking.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, Julie Long Herndon, Grove City; Jim Saunders, Grove City; Ron Saunders and his wife Leigh, Chesterfield, Va.; Leslie Price, Grove City; and Terri Hepps and her husband David, Pittsburgh; and 12 grandchildren, Michael and Tyler Herndon; Jim, Emilee, Shea and Ryan Saunders; Kiya, Harold, and Shyann Price; and Elizabeth, Lillian and Owen Hepps. Warren is also survived by his dog, Patsy
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Virginia Rink.
Calling hours were Tuesday (1-15-13) in Cunningham Funeral Home, Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday (1-16-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. Howard Greenfield, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating.
