Wayne A. McCoy of Mercer, passed away at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012, in Family Hospice in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township. He was 95.
Mr. McCoy was born May 5, 1917, in Grove City to Mark and Sara Michaels McCoy.
Mr. McCoy served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a gunners mate second class on a Merchant Marine vessel, USS Maui in the Pacific theater.
Before and after his military service, he was employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for 43 years as a precision machinist. Mr. McCoy also worked for various machine shops in the Grove City area and taught a machinist course for two years at Mercer County Vo-Tech.
He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6345, Mercer, and belonged to Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Mercer.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Lena Hogan McCoy, whom he married Oct. 27, 1945, Navy Day, in the former All Saints Church in Mercer.
Also surviving are: his son, Mark McCoy and his wife Dana, Sarver, Pa.; a daughter, Katherine and her husband Joe Bello Sr., Jamestown; six grandchildren, Jason Michael, Olivia Plummer, Alise Wright, Laura Cooksey, Megan Wright and Maggie Profator; eight great-grandchildren; a niece, Marilyn McCoy; and a sister-in-law, Sonia McCoy, both California.
Mr. McCoy was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Kenneth McCoy; a daughter, Patricia McCoy; a brother, Paul McCoy; and a sister, Mary Grace Murdock.
Calling hours were Friday (11-30-12) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., Mercer, with a wake service that evening.
Mass of Christian burial Saturday (12-1-12) in Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, Penn Avenue, Mercer, with the Rev. James J. Kennelley, pastor, as celebrant.
Interment with military honors at All Saint's Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
