Thelma C. Anderson Lichtenberger, formerly of Franklin Road, Jackson Center, passed away peacefully at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday (11-13-12), in Orchard Manor, Pine Township, of natural causes. She was 100.
Born Aug. 28, 1912, in Jackson Center, Mrs. Lichtenberger was a daughter of Thomas and Emma Keller Brazel.
She was a 1929 graduate of Mercer High School and an alumnus of the former Shenango Valley School of Business.
Thelma was a rural mail carrier, one of only seven lady carriers in the United States at one time, for more than 33 years. She served the Jackson Center area, retiring in 1976. In her early years, she worked as a secretary in the office of the G.C. Murphy Store of Mercer.
As a lifetime member of Jackson Center Presbyterian Church, she was a member of the Ladies Aid Society and Mother's Club, and taught Sunday school.
Thelma was very community-oriented and supported many local functions, including the Stoneboro Golden Agers, Stoneboro Lions Club and Jackson Grange 1506.
She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards and visiting with family and friends.
Her first husband, John B. "Jack" Anderson, whom she married in 1940, passed away in September 1943; her second husband, the Rev. J. Richard "Dick" Lichtenberger, whom she married in July 1970, passed away Dec. 7, 2008.
Surviving are a son, J. Gary Anderson and his wife Carol, Broomfield, Colo.; a granddaughter, Sonya Seidler and her husband Craig, Louisville, Colo.; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Jack Seidler; and several nieces and nephews.
Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Twila Waite and Frances McCurdy; and two brothers, Howard Brazel and LaMont Brazel.
Calling hours were Nov. 30, 2012, in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro.
Funeral service was Dec. 1, 2012, in the funeral home with the Rev. Charles E. Crane, pastor of Jackson Center Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Jackson Township.
