Kenneth Leroy Ellenberger of Grove City, formerly of Kittanning Pike, Chicora, passed away Monday (1-21-13), in Orchard Manor, Pine Township. He was 88.
Mr. Ellenberger was born March 14, 1924, in Kaylor, Armstrong County, to Ralph L. and Beryl Irene Kamerer Ellenberger.
Ken was a graduate of Karns City High School and spent most of his life in the area.
He served with the U.S. Army in Belgium during World War II as a radioman.
Mr. Ellenberger retired after many years as a switchman at United Telephone in Butler.
He will be especially remembered for his friendly disposition and his ability to strike up a conversation with everyone he met.
His memory will be carried on by his loving wife of 24 years, Martha Rider Ellenberger, whom he married March 9, 1988; sons, Kenneth Michael Ellenberger, Butler; Ralph David Ellenberger and wife Margaret "Peggy," Chicora; and John L. Ellenberger, Monongahela; grandchildren, David Ellenberger, Nathan Ellenberger, Matthew Ellenberger, Christina Ellenberger and Carrie Monahan; and great-grandchildren, Shelby Ellenberger and Michael Monahan.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today (1-23-13) and 10 a.m. to time of service Thursday (1-24-13) in Bauer-Hiller Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 102 Argyle St., Petrolia.
Funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday in the funeral home.
Burial in Mount Pleasant Lutheran Cemetery, Chicora.
