Megan M. Kays of Superior Street, Grove City, passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 8, 2013, in Pine Township. She was 22.
Miss Kays was born Oct. 10, 1990, in Grove City to Jeffrey A. and Michelle L. Kimmell Kays.
Megan was a graduate of Grove City High School, class of 2009.
Megan was very athletic, earning many varsity letters in tennis and swimming. This past December, she graduated early with honors from Clarion University of Pennsylvania with a bachelor's degree in business marketing. She had planned to pursue a master's degree in health promotions.
Megan enjoyed fitness; she loved running and bicycling. She participated in numerous running and bicycling events that raised funds for many charitable organizations.
In May 2012, Megan ran her first Pittsburgh Half Marathon and placed 49th overall in the women's division. She recently did volunteer work to earn a free bib to run the May 2013 Pittsburgh (full) Marathon.
Megan was baptized in the Lutheran church.
She frequently helped a friend take care of other people's pets and walk their dogs.
She formerly worked at Sweet CeCe's at Grove City Premium Outlets, Springfield Township.
Megan liked and enjoyed helping others.
Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to any charitable organization that benefits those in need.
She is survived by her parents, Michelle and Jeff Kays, at home; her brother, Devin J. Kays and his wife Victoria, Fort Bragg, N.C.; her grandparents, Maria H. Kimmell; and Harold "Ben" Kays and Roberta Kays, all Grove City; a niece, Xocial Kays, Fort Bragg; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Megan was preceded in death by her grandfather, French Kimmell.
Calling hours were Thursday (1-10-13) in Cunninghyam Funeral Home Inc., Grove City.
Funeral service was Friday (1-11-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. G. Kenton Shaw officiating.
