SLIPPERY ROCK —
Russell Roy Hogue, Brady Township, Butler County, passed away at 11:45 p.m. Tuesday (12-25-12) in Slippery Rock Personal Care Home, Slippery Rock. He was 88.
Mr. Hogue was born Nov. 3, 1924, in Worth Township, Butler County, to Roy J. Hogue and Nancy Rebecka McCall.
He married Mabel Marie Grossman on March 4, 1962. She preceded him in death on Oct. 18, 2011.
He retired from Cooper Energy, formerly called Cooper Bessemer of Grove City, where he worked in the foundry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and proudly served his country during World War II on the naval destroyer USS Ringgold. He attended St. John's United Methodist Church in Hallston.
Mr. Hogue enjoyed working in the yard and especially in his garden and was known for graciously sharing his crops with family and friends.
He also enjoyed spending time with his family and was always there to help in any way he could. He and his late wife enjoyed attending their grandchildren's sporting events and could always be seen in the crowd cheering them on. As a young man he loved the outdoors including hunting, fishing and working on construction projects with his brothers.
He is survived by: a son, Russell D. (Shelley) Hogue, Slippery Rock; a stepson, R. Jack (Shirley) Jones, Slippery Rock; two brothers, Charles (Joanne) Hogue, Portersville; and Fred (Joanne) Hogue, Eau Claire, Pa.; and a daughter-in-law, Janyce Suppers, Leechburg, Pa.
Also surviving are: his grandchildren, Dalton and Connor Hogue, Bart, Greg, Doug and Curt Jones, and Michelle Engelhart, who was like a granddaughter to him. He also has 13 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Mabel; a stepson, Don Jones; a grandson, Bob Jones; a great-grandson, Corey Jones; three brothers, Elmer, Ken and Don Hogue; and a sister, Evalena McConnell.
Calling hours were Dec. 29, 2012 in Smith Funeral Home, 421 New Castle St., Slippery Rock. Funeral service were Dec. 29 at the funeral home with the Rev. Barbara Moore, pastor of St. John's United Methodist Church, Hallston, officiating.
