WARREN, Ohio —
Allen E. "Butch" Dickson of Stoneboro, formerly of Grove City, passed away at 9:24 a.m. Tuesday (12-18-12) in the emergency room of Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was 72.
Born May 10, 1940, in Grove City, Mr. Dickson was a son of Stanley L. and Alberta E. "Cubby" Osborne Dickson.
He was a 1958 graduate of Grove City High School and had attended Grove City College. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was an honorably discharged peacetime veteran.
Upon his return in 1959, he was one of the first groups of 12 people hired to work for the U.S. government in the underground mines at Boyers. He worked there for more than 42 years as a claims examiner in the office of personnel management, retiring in 2001.
He was of the Protestant faith.
Butch loved to work crossword puzzles and watch John Wayne movies and enjoyed playing bingo.
He had been a member of the former Grove City Area Rescue Squad.
He married Linda L. Clinger on June 19, 1966; she survives in Grove City.
Also surviving are: two sons, Alan "Pete" Dickson and Steven Dickson and his wife Elizabeth, all Grove City; four sisters, Helen Hart, Sandy Lake; Connie Farmer and her husband Dr. Duane "Doc" Torgerson, Stoneboro; Dona cq Ender and her husband Garth, Las Vegas; and Bonnie Sue Wilson and her husband David, Grove City; two brothers, Harry Greenawalt and his wife Brenda, Pontiac, Mich.; and David Dickson, Grove City; and two grandchildren.
His father, Stanley, and his mother, Alberta Osborne Magee, preceded him in death.
Calling hours were Saturday (12-22-12) in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro.
Funeral and committal services were Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Terry L. Greenlee, Stoneboro, officiating.
Interment in Crestview Memorial Park, Pine Township.
