GREENVILLE —
Karen Black of 31 Lancaster Ave., Greenville, passed away Friday morning, Dec. 7, 2012, in her home after an extended battle with cancer. She was 61.
Ms. Black was born July 19, 1951, in Sharon to Thomas and Norma Armstrong Benbow.
She was a 1969 graduate of Hickory High School and a 1973 alumna of Thiel College, Greenville, with a degree in sociology.
Karen was previously employed as program director for the MR Unit of Orange Village Care Center in Masury.
She was a member of Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ in Greenville and a member and supporter of American Cancer Society's Relay for Life.
Karen loved to travel, especially to the ocean. She also enjoyed cross stitching and the company of her pets. Of everything she did and loved, Karen enjoyed being with her loving family the most.
She is survived by: four sons, Miles Black and his wife Melissa, Canfield, Ohio; Thomas Black, Greenville; David Black, Orangeville, Ohio; and Tim Black and his wife Ba, San Leandro, Calif.; six grandchildren, Seth "Gunner" Black, Sutton "Gubby" Black, Chloe Greer, Kaci Hyde, Kortni Hyde and Kylie Hyde; a nephew, John Wilson and his wife Brinda, Greenville; two nieces, Cathy Mortimer and her husband Bill, Greenville; and Chrissie Cusick and her husband Curtis, Mercer; and her former husband, David Black, Greenville.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Holly Wilson.

In accordance to Karen's wishes, her body was donated to Humanity Gifts Registry for medical school teaching purposes.
