Lucille C. Steckler

Stoneboro homemaker was '38 Thiel graduate

MEADVILLE — Lucille C. Steckler, formerly of Steckler Road, Stoneboro, passed unexpectedly of natural causes at 5:55 a.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, in Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community, Meadville. She was 92.

Born Aug. 11, 1919, in New Vernon Township, Clarks Mills, Mrs. Steckler was a daughter of Lee F. and Ethel M. Hawthorne Carey.

She was a 1936 graduate of the former Penn High School, Greenville, and a 1938 graduate of Thiel College, also Greenville, with an associate's degree in business.

She worked from 1967 to 1978 for Magnetics of Sandy Lake, now Spang Power Control.

Most of all, Lucille was a homemaker and loved taking care of her family. She loved clipping coupons and refunding.

As a member of Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, Mrs. Steckler was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Women and had served as church treasurer, chairman of the administrative board and a Sunday school teacher.

She was a member of Carpenter's Corner's Homemakers Club and had served on the board of directors for the Homemakers of Penn State Extension, Mercer County. She was a member of the former Sandy Lake Grange and now, New Vernon Grange and Pennsylvania State Grange.

Her husband, Robert J. Steckler, whom she married Sept. 29, 1945, preceded her in death June 17, 1993.

Survivors include: three sons, Lewis L. Steckler and his wife Callie, Waterford, Pa.; Edward E. Steckler and his wife Patricia, Stoneboro; and Ronald R. Steckler and his partner Steven Tobiasson, Sandy, Utah; four grandchildren, Lance Steckler and his wife Kim, Liberty Township, Trumbull County; Chanda Beaufort and her husband Jeffrey, Frederick, Md.; Carey Steckler, Uganda, Africa; and Casey Steckler, Grove City; and four great-grandchildren, Remington and Mackenzie Steckler; and Jackson and Jameson Beaufort.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Willard Carey; two sisters, A. Jean Jones and Shirley L. Moore; and a brother, J. Jay Carey.

Calling hours were Sunday (7-22-12) in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, Stoneboro, followed by a grange service by New Vernon Grange.

Funeral service was Monday (7-23-12) in the funeral home with the Rev. Dayton D. Mix, pastor of Clarks Mills United Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment with committal service at Hadley Cemetery.
