BUTLER —
Robert Darrell Atwell, departed this life to tend God's garden. He died at 7:10 a.m. Saturday (1-12-13) at the Butler VA Medical Center, where he had been ill since March 2012. He was 64.
Formerly of Grove City, Atwell was a Payson, Ariz., resident since 1959.
He was born April 3, 1948, in Grove City, to Darrell S. and Verla L. Hodgson Atwell.
He was married to Patricia Lynn Smith, who preceded him in death June 26, 2009.
Bob enlisted in the Army in 1967 and was stationed in Korea from 1968 to 1971, working in intelligence.
Following his military career he attended Arizona State University.
He was formerly employed by Texas Instruments and was a mechanic by trade and worked for various companies throughout his life.
Also, he had an expertise in horticulture and had managed floral shops in Payson and Dallas.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his mother, Grove City; a sister, Linda Heckman and husband Lewis, Jackson Center; several nieces and nephews; and a best friend, Dave Butler and his wife Susan, Payson, Ariz.
He was preceded in death by his wife and father; and grandparents.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (1-18-13) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.
Funeral service at 10 a.m. Saturday (1-19-13) in the funeral home with the Rev. Brian Heckman, Robert's nephew, officiating.
Burial in Union Home Cemetery, Wolf Creek Township.
