Meter reader, Army vet enjoyed cards, gardening

GROVE CITY — Robert L. "Bob" Mong, 301 S. Broad St., Grove City,  died at 10:13 a.m. Wednesday (12-26-12) in Grove Manor Nursing Home, Grove City. He was 74.

Mr. Mong was born Sept. 18, 1938, in Grove City to William Leroy and Dorothy June McNeish Mong.

He married Hedwig "Heidi" Muller on Sept. 23, 1961. She passed away on July 28, 2001.

He was a meter reader for Mercer Gas and Water Company where he worked for 15 years. After his retirement in 1992 from Mercer Gas he was a maintenance man at Grace United Methodist Church until 2002.

He attended Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City. Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1959 to 1968. The majority of his military time was spent in Germany where he met and married his wife, Heidi. Bob enjoyed playing cards and gardening.

He is survived by three daughters, Maria Wike and her husband, David, Grove City; Kathleen Stevens, Boling Brooke, Ga.; Valerie Mills and her husband, Kenneth, Mercer; a son, Barry R. Mong, and his wife, Faith, Sandy Lake; seven grandchildren and two grandchildren; one brother, Frank Mong and his wife, Joyce, Karns City, Pa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, Timothy and Edward Mong, and a grandson, David K. Wike.

Calling hours are 12 to 2 p.m. today (12-29-12) at Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., 306 Bessemer Ave., Grove City.

Funeral service is 2 p.m. today in the funeral home with the Rev. Willard Morse, visitation pastor at Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City, and W. Stephen Morse, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Greensburg, Pa.

Burial in Woodland Cemetery, Grove City.

Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Grace United Methodist Church, 210 S. Broad St., Grove City.
