Harlansburg homemaker has son in Slippery Rock

NEW CASTLE — Dorothy Louise Miller Thomas, Scott Township, Lawrence County, passed away at Edison Manor, New Castle, at 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012. She was 87.

Born on Aug. 6, 1925, she was the daughter of Gilbert and Elizabeth Newman Miller.

Mrs. Thomas was a secretary at West Penn Power in Pittsburgh until she had her children. 

She was a homemaker. She enjoyed sewing and knitting and was a lifelong member of the Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years. 

She married George Mars Thomas Jr. on Nov. 13, 1946. He preceded her in death on January 12, 2012.

Surviving are: a son, George M.Thomas III, husband of Maria, Slippery Rock; a daughter, Barbara Brown, wife of Curt, Eckley, Colo.; a brother, William Miller, Greenlane, Pa.; a sister, Betty Berends, wife of Henry, Downingtown, Pa; five grandchildren, Erin Frank, Kathleen Burns, Shawn Brown, Caitlyn Brown and Meghan Claypoole; and four great-grandchildren, Cassidy Claypoole, Taylor Frank, Arya Burns and Carson Brown.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents.

Calling hours were Friday (12-21-12) in Smith Funeral Home, Slippery Rock. 

Funeral was Friday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Brady Randall, pastor of Harlansburg Presbyterian Church, presiding.

Interment in Unity Baptist Cemetery, Harlansburg.
