GREENVILLE —
George E. "Jiggs" Bromley, District Road, Fair- view Township, passed away peacefully at 4:20 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, 2012, in UPMC Horizon, Greenville, after a brief illness. He was 96.
Born July 11, 1916 in Lake Township, he was a son of George E. and Mary E. Hosack Bromley.
He attended the Carpenter's Corners Country School and the Odd Fellows School of Pittsburgh and Meadville.
Mr. Bromley retired in 1981 from former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. after 40 years of service.
In his earlier years he had worked for the Erie Railroad, Greenville Steel Car Co., and at local dairy farms.
He was a longtime member of the former Carpenter's Corners Church of Christ.
Mr. Bromley was an avid gardener and beekeeper and always enjoyed taking care of his home. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, walking and lawn mowing.
He was a long-time member of the Pleasant Ridge Grange, Perry Township.
He was a World War II veteran and served with the U.S. Marine Corps.
His wife, the former Effie D. Britton, whom he married Sept. 15, 1946, preceded him in death Aug. 20, 1993.
He is survived by five daughters: Barbara Calvin and husband Terry, James-town; Deborah Holmes and husband Jeffrey, Sandy Lake; Elinor Gay Nosker and husband Robert, Saugerties, N.Y.; Frances Hettick-Beilstein and husband Troy, Stoneboro; and Georgetta Reddick and husband Jeffrey, Stoneboro; two sons: Edward Alan Bromley and wife Vicky, Gibsonia, Pa.; and Carl E. Bromley, Kittanning; 15 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and a brother William Bromley and wife Catherine, Greenville, as well as many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his wife, a grandson Michael McGranahan; four brothers: James, John, Norman and DeWayne Bromley.
Calling hours were Tuesday (10-16-12) in Scott A. Black Funeral Home, 99 Franklin St., Stoneboro.
Funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday (10-17-12) in the funeral home, with the Rev. Eric M. Peters, pastor of Fredonia Presbyterian Church, officiating.
Interment in Oak Hill Cemetery, Sandy Lake Township.
