AKRON, Ohio —
Rachel 'Rae Rae' Lawman Swick, a longtime resident of Mercer, died on Thursday, Oct. 4, 2012, at the age of 86. She was being cared for at the Hospice of Visiting Nurse Service in Akron, Ohio.
Mrs. Swick was born May 6, 1926, in Bridgeport, W.Va., to Lee H. Lawman and Rosa Davis Lawman.
Her storied childhood on the farm prepared her for a life conducted gloriously.
Rachel's unfaltering faith granted her steadiness and grace throughout the trials of life. Because of that grace, she would playfully acknowledge that life had sometimes been hard, but never so hard that a prayer wouldn't get her through.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Swick and Darlene Swick Pizor; a son-in-law, Ronald Pizor; her grandsons, Mark Pizor and his wife Erica; and Brian Pizor and his wife Megan; a great-grandson, Luke Pizor; and George Babics and many dear friends from her church and community.
She was predeceased by her husband, Sylvester 'Sy' Swick, on Jan. 11, 1997; her parents and eight siblings.
In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Mercer United Methodist Church, 250 E. Butler St., Mercer, PA 16137; Hospice of VNS, Attention: Development, 3358 Ridgewood Road, Akron, OH 44333.
Rachel was a remarkable example to us all. She showed us that life is never as bad as you think it is and that wisdom is a mindset that needs tending, much like a garden. She was a beautiful person and will be dearly missed by all.
Calling hours were Saturday (10-6-12) in Cunningham Funeral Home Inc., Mercer.
Funeral service was Saturday in the funeral home, with the Rev. Eric C. Leonard, pastor of Mercer United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment in Bridgeport (W.Va.) Cemetery, Harrison County.
