GROVE CITY —
Chris Karcher, the Grove City Senior High School student who was in the running for a prize of $100,000 in college tuition money, didn't make it to the top five but his winnings were tripled by Dr Pepper.
Online voting for the Dr Pepper Tuition Giveaway contest ended Monday, when a company official called Karcher to notify him he came in a very close sixth place, said his mother Sandra Karcher.
The company said it was so impressed with the video he submitted explaining why he deserved the tuition money and by how many people supported him that they increased his tuition prize for being a finalist from $2,500 to $7,500.
Karcher, 18, was one of 10 finalists.
The senior has been accepted to Edinboro University, where he wants to learn to create movies and games for kids with autism, a condition he was diagnosed with as a child.
