Dairy princess is from Grove City area

MERCER COUNTY — My name is Samantha Weber and I am the 2012-2013 Mercer County Dairy Princess.

I reside just outside of Grove City on my family's third-generation dairy farm with my mom, Brenda, my dad Rick, and my brother and sister, Garret and Liz.

I am 16 years old and the youngest of three children.. Both of my siblings recently graduated high school whereas I am preparing to begin my junior year at Grove City High School.

I have been involved in Grove City's track and field program for the last four years.

Outside of school, I am a member of the Hayburners Dairy 4H Club, which enables me to show my Ayrshire heifer, Annabelle.

Along with that, I have been involved in the county's Dairy Princess Promotion Program for 10 years.

This year, I was finally old enough to run for the title of Mercer County's Dairy Princess.

I had to perform a skit, speech and answer an impromptu question after going through an interview with three judges.

This year, I am focusing on the farmers themselves and informing the consumers that their milk comes from a good place.

I would like to provide you, the consumers, with informational facts about the dairy industry and the care of their animals and your local farmers providing you with your "3 Every Day of Dairy."

Animal care is the most important part of a dairy farmer's job. Good cow care leads to a good quality and wholesome product.

Dairy farmers use nutritionists to help provide them with the proper feed rations and nutritious diets for their animals.

Regular checkups are done and the cows are monitored by a veterinarian to help keep them healthy.

Dry bedding, clean fresh water and a proper diet are all part of a dairy farmer's way of providing dairy cows with a healthy environment.

A healthy herd is the No. 1 way the dairy farmer brings consumers a wholesome dairy product.

Remember: your milk comes from a good place.
