Postal Service public meeting set for Jan. 24

GROVE CITY — A letter recently arrived from the Postal Service, saying a review process is under way for Jackson Center post office.

Community input will be gathered from these surveys as well as a public meeting at Jackson Center Presbyterian Church at 5:30 p.m. Jan. 24 to answer questions and provide additional info about the POST Plan.

Local management will share the survey results, answer questions and solicit input regarding the time of day the local post office will be open.

The Postal Service intends to maintain the local post office with six-hour window service each weekday, the letter stated.

Current Saturday window service hours and access to delivery receptacles will not change, according to the letter.

In spite of computers, there are many of us who keep in touch via letter-writing.

One of my cousins tells me she has saved every letter I have ever written to her over the years.

Maybe someday she will write a book and make us both famous.

With the year 2012 just finished, here is a look back to 1979...

A new Marion dragline with a 22-yard bucket began stripmining operations near Route 965, east of Jackson Center.

The diesel motor had its own generator and made its own electricity to operate the machine.

Mr. and Mrs. Brent Campbell of Northboro, Mass. were on the 1979 Can-Am Transcontinental Reliability Tour, which began in Florida and was to end in Nova Scotia.

The 1913 Stanley Steamer they were driving developed a knock and the couple stopped by Tom Kristyak,Sr.'s garage for repairs. Assisting Tom were Mike Kristyak and Wayne Cramer.
