GROVE CITY —
Saturday was an exciting day at the Grove City Area Historical Society when more than 100 people attended the open house and dedication of 13 rooms on the second floor.
Each room represents a segment of the community, such as Grove City College, churches, veterans, community organizations, industrial, schools, businesses, a typical hotel room, agriculture, Scouting, real estate and maps.
The ribbon cutting at 111 College Ave., downtown, was done by Terry Farren, Dick Stevenson and Skip Sample. Farren is the former Grove City Borough manager who was instrumental in getting council to give the historical society a donation of $65,000 with which the society headquarters were purchased in 2000.
State Rep. Dick Stevenson has helped the organization receive grants to refurbish what had been the Traveler's Hotel, and Skip Sample is its president.
After the ribbon cutting the people responsible for each room went to their respective areas to greet visitors and answer questions.
Each room has a committee that continually updates displays. The rooms will never be "finished" because new items are constantly being donated.
The building is open Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. It will close for the winter on Dec. 17 and will reopen on April 12.
